I'm new to spinning to am not familiar with how to describe roving, but I sent it to a friend, Margaret Radcliffe, who is an experienced hand spinner and well known in the fiber community. (You can see her FB musings here)
Here is her review of the roving:
"It’s lovely stuff, with the elastic lofty crimp of the Romeldale CVM and the buttery feel of the alpaca.
I spun small samples with different amounts of twist and different thicknesses in 2- and 3-ply, then a larger sample of soft 2-ply.
All the samples were nice yarns, showing the versatility of the fiber. The staple length appears to be about 3.5”.—quite reasonable for hand spinning.
Since I’ve been prepping wool for my own use I’ve become very critical of roving produced by mills. It’s frequently very compacted, inconsistent, and full of nepps. Your roving is the opposite: lofty, soft, and completely consistent. I even like the fact that there’s a tiny bit of VM in it. That tells me it wasn’t subjected to chemicals that dissolve the VM (and weaken the fiber). It was a pleasure to spin." [see image of her samples]
This roving was pin-drafted at Kingdom Fleece and Fiberworks in Hardwick, VT
